 Announcing the new owners of Whitestrand Boat Hire

Simon Clarke and Matthew Clarke

 

We are delighted to announce that Simon Clarke and son Matthew Clarke will be taking ownership of Whitestrand Boat Hire in Salcombe from the 26th April 2023. This is an exciting opportunity for both father and son to work together. They equally have a strong passion for boating and Salcombe, it feels like a second home to them. It all started in the late 90’s with Simon’s first family boating holiday on Peggy, a Victoria 38 sailing boat, from this point the family were hooked.

Simon and Matthew are from the beautiful village of Dunstall in Staffordshire. Simon is the owner of Dunstall Estate and Chairman of Dunstall Holding Ltd. His career started in farming from a young age and now owning nearly 300 cattle, 1500 sheep and 1500 acres of agricultural and glorious woodland in the heart of the English countryside. Property has also been a theme through most of his career, building a rental portfolio of residential and commercial properties. Matthew has had a love for all things mechanical from a very young age, whether that be cars, tractors or boats. He is the founder and director of Clarke 4×4, which was established in 2017 and a director of RVT commercial vehicles, which is a part of the Dunstall Holdings group. Matthew will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of Whitestrand Boat Hire.

Matthew and Simon are looking forward to becoming part of the Salcombe community and to meeting all existing and new customers.

For this upcoming season we have plans to add two more 8 person hire boats to the fleet, this will increase the number of boats on the water to 18. There are also plans to implement a user friendly online booking system. You will still be able to call and walk-in to make bookings with our friendly team. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the customers that have supported Whitestrand Boat Hire over the years, without you the business wouldn’t be where it is today. We will be providing the same excellent service and care that you received from Philip, Tamsin and their family over the past 6 years. Informative and entertaining river cruise, very welcoming to families and dog friendly! We had the one hour guided boat tour around the estuary. Stephen was a great guide pointing out wildlife and lots of interesting local history, he was very friendly and entertaining. Would highly recommend.

Superb! Incredible day round the estuary, white strand were so helpful, giving us a clear map and guidance to follow. Amazing day in the sunshine! Boat was perfect for pottering round with the dogs too. Thank you!

Boat hire We really enjoyed our boat hire seeing Salcombe from a different view. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to hiring again but for longer.

Estuary Trip For Lunch On The River Tamsin and Philip were a huge help and totally on it when it came to advising which boat we required and the tidal times to ensure we were able to take a trip up the estuary for lunch. We couldn't fault the experience. Good value for money and great fun.

Top day chugging around the estuary Really enjoyable 4 hr hire. The staff couldn't do enough for us novices, taking their time to explain all the safety features, where not to go, how to watch the tide and how to pass other boats on the left (smile) - also sold us a fishing rod etc in case we saw a big sea bass or two (we didn't). Great trip, will definitely do this again.

Friendly, fun and good to go... 2nd boat hire with Whitestrand in a Cap 400 boat. Really good fun, clear instructions & advice given, so pressure taken off especially with a young family. We took dog and a picnic lunch in the boat with us and all felt like proper sailors by the end. Highly recommended.

Book it! From the moment of walking into the booking office, through the intro to the boat and the return of the boat some 4 hrs later, it was a great experience The staff were friendly helpful and a breathe of fresh air, I think some of the local hostelries could learn some customer service lessons from Tamsin and her team!
